Why won't anyone ride with me? (ride report)...biknben

A very generous cyclist provided a route on his web site for me.

It is a hilly route Southwest of Harrisburg, PA. A 42 mile loop with 5,800 ft of climbing. It was recommended that the route be done in both directions to make an 80-miler but it was just too hot and I had a century planned for the next day. Including the wrong turn I made, the ride ended up being just under 50 miles.

None of my riding buds were willing to join me. Maybe it was the fact that I had to drive 3 hours just to get there or that the heat index was over 100. Anyway, I stole the digital cam from work to share glimpses of the ride. Here are some of the good ones.

Didn't waste any time. 10 minutes after starting I was on my way up.

And back down the other side...
Excellent example of switchback steepness on the inside of curveTig

Great photos! This one really shows how much steeper the inside of a curve can be verses the outer line.

That's great that you were willing to drive 3 hours to bike 42(50) miles, up 5,800ft of climbing, on a day when there was a heat index of 100, AND when you were planning a century the next day! Dayyuuummm!!! ;-) How did the century go?

A friend and I did a 112-mile route from Trenton, NJ to Long Beach Island and back. We had a blast on the way out. We paid for it on the way back. The wind was horrible. We were stuck in the flatlands of NJ with no breaks from the wind or heat. I had some issues with dehydration and cramping in the end.

I should have taken the hints from MB1's post the night before and left earlier. I didn't start until 9:00am. Lookin back, that wasn't very smart.

Looking back on the first ridge. I was at the base of the antennas just a few minutes earlier.

Very nice.....and I'm sure that you obeyed the '20 mph' speed limit like a good, law-abiding citizen... :)
