Where's the 3lb weight savings between the Trek 5200 T and 5500 T?

You sure there is really that much difference? Frames, forks are identical and wheels nearly so.

Different wheels, DA, Race vs. Race lite bars and stem, headset, seatpost, saddle... makes sense to me- especially with the wheels and crankset.

The 5500 comes with Bontrager Race X Lite ti's. Not sure where the titanium is, but that is what they call it. The 5200 - "plain" Race Lite's. The 5500 has a full carbon steerer on the fork. I beleive the 5200 has an alloy steerer. The 5500 has a Thomson seatpost. The 5500 has an oversized Bontrager bar and stem. Other than that, I'm not sure what else would make up the difference.

Maybe Trek is not saying everything there is to say,but the catalogue says the forks are the same. The 5900 gets the icon 'superlight' carbon air rail.
the 'ti' is in the skewers. nmweiwentg

In '03, the only weight difference btw 5500 and 5200 should be Dura Ace v. Ultegra. In '03 the 5500 and the 5200 will share the same Race Lite wheel set. In '02 the 5500 had the upgraded Race X Lite wheels (like the 5900 Superlight) Also, both the 5200 and the 5500 had the heavier Icon air rail fork which has been swapped out for the new 110 "Race Lite" fork.

Btw the Ti in the Race X Lite wheel set is in the skewers.
Hmm...might be a good year to buy the 5200. Thanks for the infojtferraro

'03 Trek 5200 or '03 Cannondale R2000? Hmm...both nice bikes!

Ah - titanium skewers...that makes sense!
