I am moving to europe until december and am not going to be able to bring my road bike with me. is there anything i should do in terms of maintenance, storage or anything else before i leave or after i get back?

thanks--

clean (no water, just Bike Lust) and lube chain with wet lube to prevent rust. If frame steel you might wanna do touch up, spray in frame saver or WD-40. 3mo shouldn't be a big deal, for longer I'd take seatpost out just in case if there's any water. Once again steel frame only, don't bother with Al or Ti.

When you say "wet lube", do you mean water-based lube, or something else? What's better for rust prevention, water-based or oil-based lube? I assume oil-based, but just want to be sure.

yes oil-based. my favorite is Pedro Wet Lube (mtb wet conditions); a bit messy still on road this stuff lasts for several hundred miles including riding through the night in rain. Everyone has a favorite
Maybe hang it if you can so you don't flatspot the tires, but ..cory

...I don't imagine it's really a problem. I've let bikes sit literally for years between rides, and all I did was pump up the tires, lube the chain and go.

Vacuum seal it and bury it deep underground..that way, it will be there when you get back... have fun in europe!
