|Eager Beagle helped me build up an early 1980's Pearson cross frame for single speed urban use. The ride is sweet -with moustache bars adding a certain frisson to the mix... However, the bike has some serious overlap issues. Any suggestions on dealing with it - or do you just get used to it eventually?|

|We'll just slice up the frame and put a coupla bits of plastic plumbing pipe in the TT and DT and hey presto - problem solved.
And I only suggested that coz you didn't want to go with the wheelbarrow wheel up front. Jeez, there's no pleasing some people.....

|If it's a single speed freewheel, I think you will acclimate yourself to making turns with the inside pedal up pretty fast.
If it's a fixed gear, how well do you like the bike? You could always have your toes amputated.

|My toes overlap my front wheel by a good two inches. It must be that I run a smaller fork rake than what was spec'd with the bike, and I like my cleats as far back on my shoe as I can get them. I find it helps my calves from cramping. You do get used to it and learn not to turn with your outside pedal in the 3:00 position. Also, I find it is only a problem at low speeds. Anything over 10mph, and I don't turn the wheel enough to matter.|

The problem is that the pedals at 6 and 12 only works with turns you can coast through. From a stop, slow speeds, or even a decent speed u-turn can all be an issue.
While I think toe overlap of some kind can be endemic to small size frames, there is a point at which it is a hazard. Why have a short wheelbase if you have to act like a tandem (ie., stop and dismount, for example, to turn the bike on a dime).

|the frame (bought for £45 at a jumble sale!) is average size - 55cm or so - the front fenders certainly add a bit of stuff for me to bang in to though
everyone is right - generally the problem is only at slow speeds - and also (embarassingly) when I forget I shouldn't attempt track stands during my commute on this bike...
it is a freewheel hub so I guess I'll just get used to it...

|I am fortunate to live in an area with great riding. I never have to turn around on a dime, and when I do, I know not to pedal into my front wheel. I'd rather not have it that way, but I don't have a choice until I plop down another $300 for a 50mm offset Ouzo Pro. Plus, I use an SPD-R cleat so I can put the cleat way back. If I used Looks, it wouldn't be as bad.|

|you could opt for 650c front wheel and/or really short cranks and wider BB, neither is worth trying. EB is right live with it you'd get used to.|| |
