just introducing my new "friend" to the scenery that lies at the end of the earth (well until NJ anyway).

mostly around my 'hood and the beauty is that there is never anyone around.

and you may see true enlightenment .... well not really but the overpass is a place with oodles of patina. usually empty other than a few crackheads and the obligatory cop car with friendly officers.
That is a great shot!(nm)Cartman

ah, spirito, those red rims and the regal really set her off. i'd post the most recent incarnation of her identical twin, but she's dressed for the long haul right now, and taking a pic of that same sultry steel steed complete with aero bars and seatpost-mounted bottle cages might steal her soul.

fyi, red & black marble tape goes nice, too.

what size are you riding? that's not a 57, is it? looks smaller.

my pearl 'bro .....Spirito
Aug 16, 2002 5:59 AM
yeah its a 53 x 54.5. hence stretching it out a bit with the stem and seatpost but it was the only other and your frame would have been a bit too big. there wasnt a 55 for me.

it fits well though but after a steady diet of square and upright italian frames it feels a little odd to start - still feels eager and i like the steering/damping and also the low bb.

your right about the paint. pearl is something else - depending on the light it ranges from almost silver to a rich gold.

cheers 'bro

to share a list of the components, specs and sizes of your new love? She is a beaut, and now you've got me rummaging around in eBay looking for a neat, retro project bike.

PS--My wife is going to hate you.

Cheers,
Scott

closer pics and a rundown of the specs
Spirito "sweet as a pearl" 8/16/02 9:45am

the only things i didn't mention is the crankset is campy c-record as are the friction shifters, the front derailleur is a daytona, pedals veloce pro-fit, i used a chorus headset as it is all silver and i couldn't see the diff between this and the record apart from price and a few grams. the stem is a nitto technomic deluxe (rivendell) which is not as long as a regular technomic but still allows me to hike the bars up as the frame is a little small (will also come in handy for touring and city riding in general).

the bottom bracket is a campy track item with a carbon sleeve as its the same width (111mm) and taper as the original loose ball and cup c-record item. the record triple is very close in size but shifts the drive side over a touch as its asymmetrical. the loose ball track bb is no longer made and i wasnt keen to use a used bb in a new frame.

the frame is columbus brain and has oversized top and down tubes as well as fat chainstays.

the hardest part to find was the c-record high flange hubs NOS and i was close to buying a pair of phil woods.

your wife shouldnt hate me though as all up cost is similar to a garden variety bike and apart from the cranks is new. it might lack a few gears and weigh a few pounds more but it looks more expensive than it really is.

ciao

... as my daughter would say. You artistic abilities show not only in the photographs but in the way you've set up the Merckx. Eddy would be proud of you. Did you take these shots with a digital cam or a regular 35 mm? Great compositions and lots of depth of field. You could be the Martha Steward of bike fashion. Will you help me accessorize my new bike if I ever locate a Merckx frame?
Nice buff on the C-record should have never sold mine on Ebay!VO2_max
