|Mine is 2 cm rearward of neutral. It was 3 cm until recently -- actually, yesterday. Still trying to evaluate effects of moving the saddle forward.|

|1-2 cm in front of the axel and it makes a big difference for me.
I've tried to set it up to where I was even or a little behind the axel and it slows me down a considerable amount. On my normal routes I went from a 19mph average to a 17.5mph average with the same or harder effort when moving the saddle back. I lost both my spin and my power and was more comfortable forward than back.
I do however have short legs and short femurs as well.
I think I'll keep mine a little forward from now on.

|a typical neutral position is from the protusion mentioned to intersecting the center of the pedal spindle. Moving forward is usually considered helpful for spin, back for power. The rage a while ago was to go back far (mine is 1.5 cm behind), but this is often done in combination with longer cranks, which are also intended for more power at lower rpms.|

|I originally set up my new bike with a 1cm back. I messed with my saddle so many times I started having lower back problems. Saw this formula on the VeloNews Tech Talk forum; Nose of saddle 5cm back from center of BB. Drop a plumb line from the tip of your saddle until it intersects the center of your BB, then adjust your saddle, you can diviate 2cm in either the direction. I started with 5cm back and felt the need to move forward after a couple of rides and I pushed my saddle forward a couple of mm's and it worked. The nice thing about this position is you don't need anyone to help you, you can do it yourself with your bike.
For me I've found if my saddle is too far foward my knees will start to hurt, too far back and my lower back flares up. I just go with what my old body tells me..
