I just recieved some advice on silicone spray. I was told that after degreasing the chain, cassette, etc. that its a good idea to spray silicone on those parts. Is this a good or bad thing to do? What about the derailer, etc? Lots of questions, are there any answers? Thanks in advance.

A restaurant supply place went out of business here a year or so ago and sold a bunch of spray cans of "food grade silicone," usually $5, for 99 cents each. I bought a couple figuring I'd find a use for them, and tried them as lubricants for all kinds of things.
I have no idea how sili would stand up in long term use, but out it on my chain, cables, brake and der. pivots etc. Didn't seem to be better or worse than anything else, but the stuff is so thin and bodyless that I went back to ordinary lube. Made the water bead up nicely, though.
Just keep it away from your tires!fz4vgq
