Does anyone incoperate a cross training regime into their bike riding schedule. For example like running or doing weights?

The short answer is, yes. Plenty of folks do. Though IMO running is not particularly good cycling specific cross-over, it is good cardio when you only have an hour or less to work out. Lifting, both for core muscle groups (abs, back, etc.) and even leg specific can produce great benefits.

The national strength & conditioning association has a number of good references for both cross training and cycling (weights and general training) at:

YES! Depending on the time of the year, I spend a decent amount of time in the weight room during the off season going thru various weight training phases n preperation for the next riding season. I run year round simply because it's the best workout I can do in the shortest amount of time possible. What you DO NOT gain in strength, you definitely gain in cardiac performance while running.
