my bikes makes squeaky/squeelly noises. it appears to occur with the same frequency as my cadence when i'm riding, so i think its my pedals. i just had the BB tuned, so i hope its not that and the noise doesn't happen when i turn the crank w/o moving the pedals.

so, i wonder if anyone else has had noisy speedplay x pedals. if so, are they easily lubed? remove, lube? i couldn't find how to lube on website,so it must be self explanatory.
thanks, my anal, noisy-ride-hating brethren....

drop some lube (like four drops total) on the metal clip thing on the cleat, should solve the problem. mine only make noise when they get really really un-lubed.

Apply some drylube on the metal spring in the cleat. That should take care of the squeak.

If you haven't lubed your pedals recently (within the last 1500-2000 miles) you might consider doing that. It's really easy to do. Depending on the year that your X pedals were manufactured, you will either have to pry off the black dust cap on the side of the pedal or remove the small greaseport screw holding the cap to the pedal (if this is the case, just remove the screw while leaving the black cap in place). Use a grease gun to inject some waterproof grease into the pedal. I used Pedro's SynGrease with their screw-on injector. Keep injecting the grease forcing the old grease out on the spindle side. You'll know that you have thoroughly greased the pedal when the new grease begins coming out the other end.

Repeat on the other pedal and that's all you have to do. I got a tube of SynGrease and Injector from REI for $16. You should be able to find it at most shops. As far as I know, most waterproof grease should do (just make sure it's grease and not an oil).

Good luck
sounds like the ticket. thanks.curtybirdychopper

I had some X3's that squeeked so I bought a new pair of X2's and guess what? they squeeked too. What it turned out to be was since the pedals have so much float, my bike shoe was rubbing on the crank arm. They do have a grease port on the end of the pedal. Remove the screw and force some grease into the hole. Good luck.
