I am thinking about buying an Ultegra build 02 Talon on closeout. Primary use would be road training for my Mtn biking racing and a possibility of racing some Tri events. Any opinions? Anything I should look out for?

Personally, I think Talon's are a ripoff at normal retail, so it would depend on the deal. For your stated purposes, it sounds like an ideal bike, but that's all a matter of personal preference. I test rode one extensively, and I found the bike to be slow to get up to speed, but once there it rolled exceptionally well - especially into and with the wind. It was my first experience with tubes that were this shaped, and they kind of caught the crosswinds on the lake front a bit. Also, 2002 stock bike had Shimano R-535 wheels - not my ideal choice. If this is the case, see if you can swat to like a CXP-33 or Open Pros. Not as sexy, but a better choice if you're doing any real riding.

My PERSONAL feeling is that I wouldn't pay over 2,100 for an 02 (they were asking 2,500 in the spring). Especially since there's so many Trek 5200s out there for about the same price.
You in Wrigleyville Chi? Or the Wrigley Estate in WI? :-) nmnova
