Hi folks - I'll be in Fairfield CT for several days this Sept & would love to rent a decent bike while in town. A quick web search for local shops has turned up. . .absolutely nothing. Any suggestions for a LBS that rent bikes and/or has good maps of local rides?

Thanks in advance for any help!

same county you have Bethel Bicycle(Bethel, CT). Here is their URL: http://www.bethelcycle.com. Not sure if they rent bikes though, but would imagine they do(or demo them).

Depends on where you are in Fairfield. Try Don's Bike shop on the the Post Road (US 1). I don't know if they rent but they should be able to give you a lead. Another shop to try is Westport Cycles, again on the Post Road but in Westport.

As for riding, I lived in the Westport-Fairfield area off and on for 40 years. Lots of good areas to ride which you can find by getting a Hagstrom map of Fairfield County. I like riding in the upper parts of Easton, Newtown, Weston, Redding, Silvermine (Norwalk), Stamford, Greenwich, etc. but it can get quite steep, as in 39/23 out of the saddle climbs, to the east and north. More leisurely riding can be found by riding along roads that follow the Sound. It's also where all the fat bottomed lycra wannabee's can be found but despite that, the views are nice.
