Ishmael....(13 posts)

You asked for my side of the story regarding SimonRex's challenge to me. I hesitate to respond because its really a joke. He says it isn't, but I think its just something to keep his attention. Actually the history he gave you was pretty accurate. I have known Simon(who?)for about 20 years now. He is right, I started road cycling last year after a renewed interest in mountainbiking the year before. I rode consistently last spring/summer and didn't get much in during the winter due to getting married, moving and any number of bad excuses. Got back on the bike in March and have ridden consistently since then.

I try to ride at least 6 days a week, sometimes less. That generally consists of fast group rides on T, TH. Slow group ride on Wed.(sometimes). Long group ride on Sundays, and various other rides on Mon, Fri, Sat. As stated by Simon, I did my 1st two road races this year, and finished around the top 1/3 in each race. I still have a long way to go.

My competition(lol)rode 2 times in April, and decided to get back on his bike in earnest in July, but now has bronchitis(as usual, he's a hypochondriac)and has not been on it for 2 weeks. I did talk him into getting the bike last year. He intially said he was interested in Triathlons and said he was training for that. That once he got in shape and lost some weight, he would train for the triathlons. He said he would do his 1st triathlon in April of '02. Well, we all know how that turned out. He has since decided that Triathlons aren't for him and that being a road racer is more appealing.

After he had gotten comfortable on his bike, and got a little bit of fitness, i talked him into doing the slow Wed. group ride. I thought it would be a nice change for him and give him a chance to socialize with other riders. Well, about 4 miles into the ride he gets caught behind some slower riders or something like that and cant pass because of traffic or something and ends up getting dropped along with two other women on cruisers. I drop back to them and offer to help pull him back to the main group, but he cusses me and says no. I say ok and ride back up to the main group. Of course this group waits at selected points along the route for dropped riders(this is a fun ride, remember) to regroup and when we were waiting on him and the two women you can hear him cussing a mile away coming down the road, mad at "everyone else" on the ride for dropping him. You really had to be there. I didn't invite him to ride again last year. Back in May he said he would try riding with the slow group again once he got back in shape. We are all anxiously awaiting for this to happen.

So chatting the other day, Simon says he's gonna whip my ass next spring in a one on one. I thought he was joking, but I guess he's serious. The bet is for $100; I tried to up it to $500 but he wants no part of that. I really don't understand why he wants this to consist of 2 seperate races, that makes no sense to me.

He supposedly has this great training plan he is going to implement. I'll give it to the guy, he really knows his training techniques, unfortunately, he has yet to realize that he cant get in shape throught reading/osmosis. If that were true he would be World Class. It's funny how he calls me on my car phone after I've been riding for 3 hours and instructs me on training from his airconditioned condo. I guess now that we are in competition all that free coaching will end...whats a guy to do?

Well, thats it in a nutshell. Hopefully this will be the last you wil have to hear about this. If Simon decides to keep talking smack I will respond.
he sounds insaneishmael

But maybe his insanity will work for him, I doubt it though if everything you said about the shape he is in is true. Where do you two live? So, rooster, what do you have to say about these acussations. As of now I've changed my mind, my wager is now on WCC.
He's not insane....I_See_Fred_People

...just bored I guess. Everything I say is true. One other thing. he says "he knows my training program". LOL, how? He has no clue what i do on my bike. Unless he can see me from his couch.

why do you have two namesishmael

suspicious. I'm thinking about moving my wager back to Rooster, I'm not sure if I trust someone who signs on with two names.
why do you have two namesWCC

the group ride he mentioned was not the Wed. fun ride but the fast Tuesday ride. And the reason I was pissed was becasue the group took off while traffic was trying to clear. There was no way to get around the slower riders to catch up until the traffic cleared which took a couple of minutes. Not very fun riding solo into a head wind to catch a pretty fast paceline. AS for not inviting me to ride with the group? Since I have only been back on the bike for 4 weeks I think it is foolish to ride with that group until I get some fitness back and more base miles in. No worries though. By next spring the Rooster will be more than ready. Am I insane? No. Goals and challenges are somthing to point toward as motivation.

See, I am not an endurance type person. I was a pretty decent athlete back in the day but never endurance activities. I was always pretty fast/explosive, especially for a white boy, and have always been pretty heavily muscled. So the endurance thing is not the way my muscles/body are genetically predisposed-i.e. more fast twitch than slow twitch muscle. It will take me months of dilligent training of the right type to improve my endurance capabilities. Once I have the fitness everything will fall into place since I know I can sprint fatser than WCC.

You've never rolled out of the parking lot with the T/TH group.
Other than than that the rest of your post was highly amusing.

WCC, your buddy Simon is all talk and his ego is about 5 steps in front of his ability. All talk and planning with no execution. Lance won't even start training until December to win the TDF and this guy needs a whole year to beat you. Mark my words, by December he will still be planning to kick his regimen into "high gear".
I tell you, in text he is convincing but you rebuttal made it all to clear. Simon, you should train for next year's Nathan Hot Dog eating contest and try to beat that little chinese dude> I think you have a better chance. LOL HAHHHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAhAhAHAHAHA
already making excuses...merckx56

My body is this, my muscles are that...blah, blah, blah. "Pretty decent athlete" is a long throw from "good athlete".
If you want to beat this guy, shut up and train. To quote Busta Rhymes, "Don't just talk about it, be about it!"
Oh and by the way, stop talking about yourself in third person, kinda sketchy!
