|Just got my Dean El Diente...56cm...3.4 w/o fork...the next step up is about 3lbs...$800 more...any thoughts?|

|I have a 58cm el diente with a frame weight of about 3.6lb, with Dura Ace components and AC wheelset, total bike weight is 17 lbs. For the money the el diente is a bargain and is much stiffer due to oversized tubing than comparable ti frames.|

|It's in the ballpark for similar quality Ti frames -- Lightspeed Tuscany, for example. With a decent parts pick and a normal wheelset you should get it in at about 18.5 lbs.
The bigger question is do you like it?

|What are you using it for? For racing where you are doing lots of climbs, probably. For recreational cruising, probably not. It also depends on how much you weigh...if >180, then 3.4lbs is fine.|

3.4 lbs. sounds about right for a solid agressive type frame that will not wag around under you. Take away material and you will loose either stiffness and/or ruggedness.
How about some inof in the tube diameters they used? More specifically, what diameter of down tube and top tube? I want one and was leaning toward Dean.

|Ultra light is about 2.3 Lbs and one can bring those frames down to 15 1/2Lbs or so. SO, what does that tell you? If weight is important you can get that bike plenty light.|

|The weight of your frame is only roughly 18% of the overall weight of the bike.....people obsess WAY too much about frame weight IMHO. Unless you are racing and at the top of the sport, or in the absolute best possible condition you can be and need that extra ooomph that .4 lbs will give you.... dont sweat it!|

|If you want to keep your El Diente and carry 0.4 lbs less weight on your rides: take a dump before you go out, this is much cheaper than buying the Diente X-Lite for $600 more.|

My steel Colnago MXL 55cm c-t weighs 1574grams
I gotta say yes it feels a bit heavy on the long steep climbs compared to my pals light alum bikes. Althoug I run tubulars on nucleons & all chorus so I am still at 18.5 - 19 lbs.
Not bad but not 15-17 lb range either.
It depends on what you want out of it.
If light weight was your main concern why TI?
