The wife and I are heading for Italia in September. I won't be taking my bike, so I will be looking for a place to rent. We will be spending a few days in the Lakes region (Lake Como specifically), and some time in general Tuscany area. Other places too, but not for long enough to make renting worthwhile. Anyone done this? Any bike rental tips? Places to rent? Any particularly spectacular rides? I've started looking in travel books, but I would be interested in tips from the collective genius of the folks here.

Thanks!
from what i've heard, the umbria region is spectacularrufus

Just up at Lake Como/N. Italy this past June. Speaking of which, I need to get my pix posted. I'll try to get it done in the next day or so. Lots of great riding (judging by the number of cyclists I saw) around Lakes Como, Iseo, and Garda. I didn't ride while I was out there though. I'm not sure of LBS around Como, but I saw a few on the way to Iseo. I'd love to go back to Como and spend a week riding around the lake and surrounding area. A MUST stop is the Santuario Madonna de Ghisallo, patron saint of cyclists and a museum of Italian cycling history. It's up the mountain from Bellagio. There's a bus that goes up there 3 times a day. Stop by the Tourist Center to get the schedule. Here's a little taste. . .
