hey, that's Kirk Albers!lonefrontranger

a buddy and former ride partner of mine who hails from my neck of the woods in Ohio. He used to come do the local crit and cyclocross series we promoted in Cincinnati.

Kirk is easy to spot in any field. He's something like 6'5" and is always either first man in front or the last guy in the rear, or riding out in the wind off to the sides. As much of a crit junkie as he is, he still hates being boxed in the middle of a group. He's in his mid thirties and has been racing since before he was in high school. He is strong like a bull, and I've seen him do interval workouts at Pro/1/2 races by sitting ~30 meters off the back of the field, then attacking all the way to the front, and doing that for an entire 90 minute crit.

His most priceless piece of tactical advice to me re: crit racing was "well if you don't like their bike handling, go off the front". I've seen him win races just because he got sick of having That Guy (you know the one, he's everyone's favorite crash waiting to happen) always right next to him.

riders were all a bit out there in terms of appearance. I am glad that it translates into the way they ride also.

If you are going to dress that loud, you have to ride that loud!!!

I am glad I got one of your bud.

I was there but all the photos posted on this site make the event even better than it was. Thanks to everyone who posted pics.

It was a tight, short course and it was a blast watching riders take those sharp turns at near full speed over and over again. It was an easy race to follow. It wasn't the USPro Championship or an epic stage in the TdF but it brought many new fans to the sport. At times I felt like I was at a baseball game as I chatted with knowledgeable fans about the unfolding events.
