To be fair though, these guys knew a whole lot more about him than I did back then. Their assessment probably wasn't some poorly informed drivel for the time. Had Lance never gone through the experience with cancer he might never have gotten where he is now, and their misgivings about him would have been spot on.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but its just funny and very interesting to read thru this stuff. I have been going to dejanews.. and you can put in a search term and specify the dates you want to look for and it shows all of the newsgroup postings with that term in it. For example, do a search on Lance Armstrong between OCt 1st 1997 and October 31st 1997 which is the month his cancer was announced. I spent 3 hours last nite going over different dates in his career. It was fascinating.
