i.e. the cassette, chain rings, chain ect . . . . or maybe a better way to put it, how many miles in general?

There is no such thing as a typical component. I get 10-12K miles out of a Campy Record9 chain, while many change their S chains every 2-3K miles. Same with cassettes. Chain rings will vary widely depending on the quality of the forging, chain maintenance, riding conditions, etc. A lot of it is maintenance, and a lot of it is component quality. The range of performance is very wide.

...a Shimano derailuer lasts me one winter or one year and thru a winter. Whichever comes first.
