what are some movies out there that have a bicycle theme or topic? The only one I can think of is American flyers. Are there more movies out there that has bicycle racing in it?

I remember that movie! Watched it so many times when I was a kid. Can't remember Nicole K though. I tried doing the standing thing on the saddle after I saw the movie.....could do it but with my hands on the bars. Haha

She was the star.

As a kid, I thought that movie was great. Now that I've gotten older and more well rounded I prefer Breaking Away.

She is an Ironman...ClydeTri

She ended up doing Ironman Hawaii also if memory serves..she was given a celebrity spot in the race, but, finished under the time limit, agian, if memory serves...

still waiting for the yet to be released cult classic ....Spirito

starring Ron Jeremy as Lance. List of allstars and includes a cameo appearance by former legend and commentator Eddy Cervyx. I think they are having trouble with the title but last rumours were that it will be called "Tour de Implants". Although the french title is somewhat more classic/risque - "Coeur de france".

not exactly a race film but deals more with the post race issues like where to accomodate the podium chicks, which new drugs to take and just why Indurain was called Big Mig. even has classic content for the pundits including one scene where Phil Ligget really does get his tongue twisted.

something for everyone (well .... im sure Grzy will find it lacking in plot development).

The biggest problem...brider

is convincing Ron Jeremy to have a ball removed. Might be one of those career limiting moves.

I like that evil looking Russian with the beard who looks more like a powerlifter than a cyclist.

two guys struggle with love and relationships while training and racing their bikes in central park. features daniel stern from breaking away, and brooke adams. not a great film(maybe a bit better than american flyers)but it does feature bikes.
American Flyers was cheesy, but . . .Geardaddy

. . . I'd have to give it credit for being an early "template" for new kind of Hollywood plot line, i.e. guy pushes his physical and mental limits in an elite competitive environment whilst dealing with the demons of his past and his self confidence. Oh, and throw in the political overtones of competing against the "russian" too. And of course there's the aspect of scoring the babe in the end - soo Hollywoodish.

Didn't American Flyers come out before Top Gun, Prefontaine, and a whole host of other similar plot lines? How about that Mitch Gaylord gymnastics movie? Remember in "The Player" how movie ideas would get pitched to the studio execs? I can just see the pitch for "Top Gun" - "Imagine a combination of 'American Flyers' and 'Shane', except this is with jet fighters - and we've got to get Tom Cruise!".

All that being said about "American Flyers", "Breaking Away" is a much better movie. I've seen it many times and it still doesn't come off as cheesy. I need to check out the aforementioned foreign films though.
that cheezy 80s soundtrack really dates it (nm)ColnagoFE

I saw "The Bicycle Theif" on AMC, "American Movie Classics", the other day...its an Italian movie with subtitles. It actually hooked me from the beginning and I never would have thought I'd sit through a foriegn film; ever.

I remember going to ET at the movies as a kid - and when Elliott and all his mates are taking ET back to meet his ship - they are on bmx bikes racing through the suburbs. Police are chasing from all directions and the kids get to the forest and ET waves his magic finger, turns on his heart light and the kids all begin to fly. Still remember the theme music...

Always did wonder how ET managed to stay in the basket on the front because he was pretty wobbley bouncing round in there.
