Shoe Advice - Carnac, Northwave, and Pearl Izumi(3 posts)

Shoe Advice - Carnac, Northwave, and Pearl Izumisashasasha
Jul 31, 2002 9:11 AM
I'm looking for input on the following shoes:

1. Carnac Ellipse EV or Quartz
2. Northwave Evolution
3. Pearl Izumi Vaper

I recently switched from the Carnac Ellipse (worn out and HEAVY) to Sidi G4 Mega, but have found that the Sidi's don't hold my foot very securely. I have a very wide (4E - duck feet) feet and am looking for new shoes with a wide toex box (and that preferably don't way a ton).

Any experience with these shoes? Thanks much for your help!

I can't imagine anything being heavier than Carnac's. They are very comfortable but heavy. For me a fair trade off. They definitely do have a wide toe box. They replaced NW evolutions which also had a wide toe box. They were pretty comfortable but not as comfortable as the Carnacs. Never tried the PI Vapers.

IMO it's a toss up. If you are looking for absolute comfort and willing to compromise weight= Carnacs. If you want light weight and willing to sacrifice a little comfort= NW.

I haven't tried the others, but the PI vapers have a pretty big toe box, and are generally pretty wide. Actually I have the opposite problem, narrow skinny feet, and the vapers just didn't work for me even though they felt ok in the store. I just got a pair of sidi genius 4's and so far, so good.

plug: if you like how the vapers feel and want a pair of size 42's that were only used about a week, I'll be putting them on ebay as soon as I get around to it :(
