Have you done any further research into the AL 384 ? I saw a frame the other day and it really seemed fine. Has anyone had a chance to ride one. It is so different than my 2 steel rides that my obsessive-ness is shifting over that way.

Cannondale CAAD7, it's made with a new AL alloy that (so they advertise) is not as harsh as the 6061 AL. I have had 3 C-Dales, and last year built up a kg 386. I just love the ride of carbon. Getting back on my C-Dale is like getting into a pick-up truck. After riding steel, don't think you will like AL. My friend bought a Look 381i, he also has a Merlin, and says the Look is stiffer. Yeah, it cost more then the AL. Totalcycling (he bought his 381i thru them), has the bike for 1590 or so.

have fun

I've seen the frame at Excel Sports in Boulder. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet. I've been checking to see who makes the frame for LOOK. LOOK makes most of their carbon frames, but they don't make the aluminum. They had steel bikes a couple of years ago(KG243and KG253) and they were made in Italy.

i've got an AC353 steel look with a hsc3 carbon fork and it is decidedly harsher than the steel merckx i've been on for years. the frames were built out of foco tubing for credit agricole to race the classics on in 2000. while it's still a muted steel ride, it's damn close to aluminum. 18 lbs w/dura-ace and k's ain't bad for a 57 cm steel rig. i rode a look kx and almost got a chubby. not the lightest thing, but gawd, was it stiff! it's next on the want list. i don't think you can go wrong with any look framesets!
