Anybody watch "The Last Word" with Jim Rome?jaybird

I just watched The Last Word with Jim Rome and he had some dip$hit named Skip Bayless from the SanJose Mercury News on there saying that our boy Lance is just a piston pumping machine but far from being an athlete. Now, to differentiate himself from that doofus on MSNBC, Skip is a marathon runner claiming 8+ sub 3hr marathons. In his mind running a marathon takes much more coordination and "foot speed" than pedaling a bike? He also said that all lance ever did was ride a bike, should we remind him that he was once a world class triathlete.

Jim Rome is a huge Lance fan.

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to vent.

FWIW my wife was pissed off and yelling at this bozo through the tv. Yea, she's pretty cool.

Is it me or is Jim Rome trying to sound like a professional wrassler? Either that, or he's constipated.

I've listened to him on the radio and that's how he sounds like to me.

Anyway, If all Lance did was "ride a bike" I guess running a marathon would be like walking fast. Skip Bayless is an ignorant fool.
Yup, he's WWF or is it WWE?Ron B

And all of his flunkies sound even worse.

I listen to him at work because it's too hard to find the sports talk radio station on my radio if I change the station.

I do have to admit though, he does give lance his due.

Beyond the fact that he gives Lance his due, I hate Jim Rome. I think the guy is a complete moron. He makes too many idiotic statements on the air and has too many crazy guests on his show, as you point out. As a student of communications and electronic media, however, I say he is great at doing his job. Controversy means ratings, and Jim Rome is great at controversy, or getting people angry from his show. The fact that he gets discussion time on this board through his program is a testament that he does his job well. I don't like him at all, but I respect that he gets his job done by pulling in ratings. Much like some people may not be fans of Lance, but they should still respect him for the athlete he is.
I agree...UncleMoe

Exactly. Their job is to get peoples attention, which creates conversation and increases viewers. Some off the the stuff on the show is a nearly over the top, but not far enough where people don't want to watch.

I sometimes think Rome and some of his guests don't even fully believe what they are saying. All they know is it will be a topic of conversation the next day.

It is unfair that someone who runs under 3:00 in the marathon would even assume to know what a world class athlete is . . . if he is getting down to 2:12 or so, maybe I would entertain his opinion at least. Seriously, 6 min pace gets you 2:37 or so, still probably below this guys times. If this guy is trying to claim that he is such a wonderful athlete that he can assert opinions on other sports/athletes, he needs to be reminded that not much "foot speed" is required to acheive 6 min pace.

I was "training" to run under 2:20 to meet the "A" standard for the trials in the marathon before injury lead to the bike. Even though I consider myself a runner in the general sense, I have much respect for someone who can even compete at the international level in cycling than plod through a 3:00 marathon since I have a grasp of both sides of the arguement.

As far as coordination required for each activity - hmm, I recall my sons being able to run long before they could "pedal" a bike.
