problems with chain(3 posts)

problems with chainpkompath

A disaster happened today. Well, it's been happening for the last 3 wks. It seems only on climbs does the chain come off the small ring/big cog ratio. The exertion somehow might be the cause--but who knows. Now, the chain is completely ruined. The inner plate bent off the pin, thus making it impossible to pedal. Do I need a new chain or are the limits off for both rear and front der.?

You might be able to replace the trashed link if you have the skills, extra links, and a good chain tool. If you have multiple damaged links, buy a new chain. It sounds like your front derailleur lower limit screw needs to be adjusted to prevent the chain dropping of the small ring. Limits on the rear derailleur have nothing to do with this problem (unless you have described it poorly and the chain is going off into the spokes - if that's the case, then the front derailleur has nothing to do with it).
And one more pointKerry

Why don't you post equipment questions on the COMPONENTS board? You'll have a better chance of your thread lasting more than one day before it's pushed off the bottom.
