If you have trouble shifting on a 9sp cassette with 10sp lever there is a retrograde to make the lever 9sp. Branford bike did it on levers we bought and they work fine. With a minimal amount of barrel adjusting we are able to shift error-free on an Ultegra 9sp cassette with our Campy 9sp levers.

Did I understand you right that you have Campy 9speed levers shifting on a Shimano cassette? If so, what are you using for a front derailleur, crank, and chain? I've been interested in changing one of my bikes setups to a Campy/Shimano 9speed combo and wondered if it was possible.
I doubt it will work, spacings are wrong n/tDeRosaOrBust
