okay, i know that this has been discussed probably a 10^6 times already, but i did a rbr.com search and couldnt find any great info so here goes:

i am looking to upgrade from my stock cxp 21's to a set of Ksyrium wheels; either the Elites or the SSC SL's.

1) what is the main difference between the two? alls that i can see is a negligble weight difference. the mavic sight doesnt clear anything up for me either.
2) where can i find the bet price on either set of these? so far, ive found the Elites for $400 and the SSC for $599 [US].

any [more] info would be greatly appreciated.

oh, by the way, i am pretty average size joe; 5'10" 155lbs.

You can try Ebay or you can call Nashbar, specifically Ernie Ibarra at (1)800-577-8720 ext. 117. I emailed him and asked if they could beat a price of $419 and he said he most definitely could. I bought another wheelset but he sounded like he could give a helluva price. Give it a shot.

is that a price for the Elites? i found them for
$400. id really like to find a deal on the SSC SL's, but
i am not dead set on them. i am mainly gonna use them to
train on and try my shot at the collegiate racing circuit
this spring. other than that, i just want a good solid, all around wheel.

Excel is closing out the SSC's for $550 (I think only tubular though). This is the older version. The only difference between it and the SSC SL are the latter having a shaved rim. This must save something like a whopping 27 grams for the paltry price of $250 extra. The SSC SL are the latest thing going and you'll pay for that. The SSC's are the best deal. The Elites use steel spokes and are quite a bit heavier.

I have heard stories that if you buy them overseas, Mavic USA will not honor the warranty. So if you break a spoke in whatever the limited warranty period is, you have to pay to get it fixed. If they are $50 cheaper out of a UK site, I'd roll the dice. I have had a pair of SSC's for 2 years now and they're completely bulletproof. Not the lightest or mosrt aero wheel out there, but a good combination of the two.

If you don't have a set of ordinary wire wheels, consider them. For $250-$300 you could build up some Velocity or Open Pro rims with Dura Ace hubs and have a wheel as light as the SSC. Not quite as aero though. I have a set that are great for commuting.

Yes, for the Elites, and I saw that you found them for $400. My point was that Nashbar will beat any price, so.... you should call them to get less than $400. Follow?

I got a set of SLs about 6 weeks ago from xpedia.co.co, along with a free set of Conti GP3000; however, I got a set of Dave's (Aero) Speed Dream wheels last week, and they are FANTASTIC!!!! and weigh ~100gms less than the SLs...($555 total price, including shipping....all black [silver = -$10)..
