Looking for group ride in DC area (fast ride)hammer_cycle

I'm going to be in the DC area for the weekend (from NY) and want to bring my bike along. Are there any fast group rides that I could meet up with this weekend?
Thanks in advance.

On Saturday there are two group rides in Rock Creek Park at 7am and 10am. They meet up at the intersection of Beach Drive and East-West highway. If you are in the park near these times you can usually ask a roadie and they will know about the ride and direct you to the start place.

On Sunday there is a 10:00 am group ride that meets again in Rock Creek Park and heads north through the park. The start place is a little hard to describe, so I would just suggest to ride around until you see about 30 cyclists come by.

Both rides are quite fast, but they go at a comfy pace until the group gets out of the park.

Great.. thank you very much. So it sounds easy to find. Is there a difference between the 7am and the 10am ride? How far do they usually ride?

Thanks again for the info.
If you're going to be in Arlington, a ride leaves Sunday a.m. atbill

9 from the Java Shack, a little coffee shop in Arlington between Courthouse and Clarendon, just off of Wilson (your friend should know it). It is hosted by the Coppi team. It passes through Rock Creek, where it picks up other riders at the Art Barn (not too far north of the Zoo) at 9:30 (near where the other Rock Creek rides meet).
The ride starts out fairly mellow, but, like the other rides, picks up outside of Rock Creek Park. Through the hills of Montgomery County, the ride splits up. The Cat 4's and 5's and most of the women then do one sort of ride, and the rest of the Cat 4's, the Cat 3's, and the occasional 1's and 2's do a bit more aggressive ride. About 45-50 miles round trip.
There also is a Saturday, 9 a.m. ride that leaves from the Java Shack hosted by Lanterne Rouge, another (smaller) club, that I've never ridden. I've heard it's pretty similar.
The Sunday 10 a.m. ride, which meets just north of the Art Barn in Rock Creek Park, is a bit looser and woolier than the Coppi ride. I've only done that ride once; I found it to be quite a bit more aggressive. I think that I was the only rider below Cat. 4 -- in the Coppi ride, Citizens can find company (with plenty of opportunity to ride hard, don't worry); the 10 a.m ride takes fewer prisoners, just plain dropping people instead of the ride's splitting up into groups.

Check out www.bikepptc.org and look at the ride schedule. You would want to look for an "A" ride. Some of those guys are pretty quick. Also, check out the training rides listed on www.dcvelo.com and www.squadracoppi.com. Those are two local amatuer racing teams. Should be easy to find a ride here.

I believe the place I will be staying is in Arlington. I've heard the park is about 20 minutes away via car. A friend is trying to figure out the best way to go. How safe is the park?

Not to scare you away but it is where Chandra Levy was found. It's a giant park, something like 2500 acres. It may be a 20 minute drive but it's probably not much more of a ride depending where you are in Arlington.

Seriously, the park is extremely safe, especially where you'll be. Have fun!
