how often do you pump air into your tires?(24 posts)

how often do you pump air into your tires?Fez

I check every day before riding mainly out of habit, and use the pump every 2-3 days.

but it never is low, so how long before the tires would actually lose say 10psi?

I make certain the pressure is correct. Tires and tubes vary a lot in how fast they leak down. I take no chances.

wow, and i thought i was obsessive.

knock on wood, i haven't had a flat in 6 years and i usually go several thousand miles on the same tube and tire, so i thought i might be wearing the valve area out faster by pumping every other ride.

Fez says: "knock on wood, i haven't had a flat in 6 years"

I usually pump before every ride.

or tube, or pump. The only time I've ever flatted was when I forgot one or more of these items.

Normally, every 2 days. But if I don't like the feel, then every ride.

At the very least just to check the pressure. If I ride on consecutive days, which I rarely do, then I often won't check. But if my bike sits for a few days, I usually need to a pump or two.

Proper pressure is critical. Pumping the tires also forces you to give your tires a brief inspection.

... I usually firm up the cruiser's tires before major rides. For anything less than about 70 miles, I figure the extra drag of slightly soft tires is good exercise.

I've been known to go up to about 5 years without adding air, and it is still ridable. Must have something to do with the thorn resistant tubes being about 3/16" thick.

On the Paramount, I expect to top them off at least once a week, probably more, and check firmness before every ride.
