Bikes on Air Canada?2300 Edmontonian

Does anyone know if I can take my road bike through Air Canada?,
I heard it's free, but if not, could you tell me how much it costs? and if they even allow it or not? how's their customer service? I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to my bike,
In my case, I'm flying from Edmonton to Toronto next month.
Any more info would be much appreciated,

I just checked their web site and it looks like they charge $65 one way for a bike.
Hope this helps.

I would try and avoid Air Canada, w/ regards to travelling w/ your bike! The reason is they have a complete disregard for bikes in general, and they in the past, have shown they have a premium on luggage space, which means if you're on a fully booked flight, chances are your bike case won't be on the same flight as you. A flight from Calgary, to London UK, resulted in me having to wait 1 1/2 days for my bike to arrive, and the AC people were quite unapologetic about it! If you have to go to T.O. try West Jet when flying out east, they have a more accomodating attitude.
One last trick might be to put some stickers on your bike case saying "audio-visual equipment" "conference supplies" etc.. It worked for me once, and I got to take the case on for free!!

Further to my last reply. I have shipped several computers on AC and never had a problem with rough handling. Make sure to put some FRAGILE stickers on your bike box (they have the stickers at the airport). When you check in you will have to take your bike over to Special Services as they deal with the oversized items. With regards to the last post, I would not worry about not having enough luggage space. His flight was to London (a 9 hour flight that only leaves once a day and can be load restricted) where as your flight leaves several times a day and is only 4 hours long and therefor carries a lot less fuel and has plenty of space for the bikes.

AC is a very good airline dispite media stories to the contrary. Best of luck.
