Riding indoors... Rollers vs. Windtrainers(3 posts)

Riding indoors... Rollers vs. WindtrainersDrPete

It dumped rain today in MD, killing my evening ride. I just canceled a $50/month gym membership because I never use it, and I'm thinking of getting an indoor training setup for my road bike.

Any opinions on rollers vs. windtrainers? Also, Kreitler seems to be the bar-none best roller. Anyone have an opinion on the Dyno-Mite/Dyno-Lite or the Challenger with the fan?

Also, any good suggestions for training videos would be nice. Thanks!

Sorry this isn't exactly what you asked for, but may I suggest you consider taking the money you would spend for the trainer and get a cyclo cross rig. You can ride it in the nasty weather, all year round and your outside.

I obtained Kreitler Dynolyte rollers 2 years ago on ebay. The rollers are so smooth and have required no maintenence after countless hours of use. I liked the roller resistence with the medium sized drums intially. But now that I am more fit, I would probably go with the smaller drum Dynomyte model. I prefer rollers over trainers because there is less rear triangle flex and frame stress. I dont have a beater bike for the trainer. In addition, rollers force round pedal strokes at high cadence.
