Bag balm: How does one use it?RoyGBiv

Sorry for the dumb question. The "instructions" on the neat-looking can tell you how to apply it to cows' teats but are inconveniently silent on how it's applied to humanoids.
Do you apply before the ride or after?
Do you apply it directly to the skin or on your chamois or underwear?
If you put it on before a long ride, will it wreck the chamois?
Sorry again and thanks

I smear bag balm on my taint area with one finger only. The reason for the one finger is the stuff stinks. I use my hand that I don't eat with on the ride. I apply prior to riding. I wipe my finger with a towel and wash and then ride. The stuff is great. It not only lubricates but keeps your tissue soft and pliable. I rode a 177 mile one day ride this year and my crotch did not have any problems.

...is this stuff good for everyday usage? I sorta thought it maybe should only be used when you had saddle sores. Never tried it though.

Oh, and what is a "taint area"? Can you just apply it like you would any other product.

(looking for something cheaper than Chamois Butt'r)

thx!

Personally, I use the "two finger" method. Dip two fingers into the can, scoop out a big glob, then rub that stuff all over my a** and whanger. YUP..I put it on anything and everything that may be affected by friction....er...while riding.

Then, I wash my hands with soap and warm water. If that isn't available, I'll rub it off on my chamois or my wife's clothes, whichever is closest. Paul

Bet I scared some people w/ that subject line ;-)
I use Dr. Naylors instead butColnagoFE

I just grab a bunch of it from the can and apply it to whereever my seat touches or there is a potential for rubbing and chafing. Basically all over your butt and tender parts. I like Dr. Naylors because it contains less lanolin than bag balm. important because you don't want to soften up your parts down there. doesn't seem to wreck the chamois for me...washes out. if you are really worried buy something like assos chamois cream--it's designed for use on the chamois. it is a lot more $ though.

I use Chamois But'r but I think the same application of Bag Balm would work.

I Put my shorts on up to my knees. with my knees spread apart, I spread the But'r on the Chamois itself very liberally. I then pull up the shorts, positioning the pad exactly where I want it. Easy, Not messy & ensures that the But'r does what is intended which is to ensure that the pad doesn't move which causes chafing.
