|I just did a trial run on swapping my fork out. The old fork is 11.5 inches long, and I have a LONG head tube. 62 c-t frame.... In fact I didnt cut the steerer and had it set up with a 25mm spacer and it seemed about right. Ive felt a little wierd with my reach to the bars... like the stem is too short (120mm) or something. Anyway the fork I just got only has a 11 inch steerer so I couldnt set the bars the same height with the old fork. I put a 5mm spacer and it just felt really good. My reach although lower (i thought this would be too low for me) feels way better..
why is this? bars farther down/away now so that corrected too short of reach to bar?

|When I bought a new frame I decided to set it up similar to what my old bike had.
When I bought the stem I didn't realize it was 20mm longer than the old stem. I realized it as I was building the new frame up and decided what the heck.
The height turned out to be about the same, just a longer reach.
As it turned out I was much more comfortable with the longer reach. My old bike I had a hard time with rides over 40-45 miles. With the new set up I was able to complete a century and for the first 70 miles I was very comfortable.
I guess sometimes higher and or shorter is not necessarily more comfortable.
