Boy, the whiners really own this board don't they!

You mean the message on the TdF board that clearly says 'Spoiler' because Site Manager Gregg alertly removed the offending subject line and replaced it with that word?
Imagine if this was a NFL board during the superbowlColnagoFE

You think you'd have to put spoiler alerts on everything AFTER the game happened? If you really don't want to know then stay off cycling BBSs for the day--heck even the CNN site has the results of today's stage in the main headlines.
Exactly...........great bike owners think alike!!!!!!!!!!...nmchopper

you couldn't watch it till the replay that night. It's really pretty simple. Some folks want to see it without knowing the outcome. No huge deal.
Stay away from the non-cycling news sites thenColnagoFE

The results are on CNN, MSNBC, and pretty much all the major non-cycling specific sites right now. If you flip over there for general news you'll soon see the results whether you want to or not.
It doesn't make sense to use "spoiler" on the TDF forumAllisonHayes
Jul 18, 2002 8:42 AM
I can see using it here, but the reason for going to the TDF forum is because you want the information, otherwise you wouldn't be going there in the first place.

Besides, all you need to do is go cycling news or one of the other sites to get up to the minute details.

You may want to discuss yesterday's stage on the TDF forum. without knowing today's result.

It's no big deal to add "spoiler" to your title and not actually specify the result. I just don't see what the problem is. It costs you nothing. There is no argument you can make against extending this simple courtesy.

You are trying to force the behavior of the majority of the posters on this board to placate a very few who really should bury their head in the sand if they want to watch a taped stage. To me, the few who have taped it should extend the courtesy to the majority on this board and let them post in peace, not the other way around.

Also, if you want to get philosphical: by having these little rules of not putting posts on the general board and putting spoiler in every heading you are actually curtailing the freedom of many posters.....

One of the reasons I watch the stages live is because there always seems to be someone who will intentionally ruin the enjoyment of watching it on tape. I will not allow YOU or anyone else to ruin the experience for me.

Note also that I do not do or participate in unlabeled postings that can ruin it for others. If in doubt as to what to do, I like to follow the golden rule as I go about life.

I am not forcing any behavior. You are free to do what you want. I simply ask you to extend courtesy to others. Part of courtesy is not doing something because you have to or have been told to, but because you choose to.

Some people have asked that you not give away the result by adding "spoiler." What the hell is so wrong about that? Are you so insensitive to others that you have to ruin it for everyone? Clearly you were brought up without manners. Post away. Meanwhile, I'll operate under the seemingly naive assumption that there are people out there who don't want ME to give away the results.
Very well said............ nmDave Hickey

And by the way, I've never intentionally posted a spoiler on the board.

So, based on your arguments what the hell is wrong with people who tape the stage to stay away from the board until they've watched it. If courtesy is a choice why can't they choose to stay away. The argument is the same both ways. My primary point is the people who have seen outnumber those who heven't.
I have no problemMel Erickson

if someone wants to put "spoiler" in the header of their post on the TdF board or even if Gregg puts it in for them but by setting up that board Gregg has notified everyone that current information about the race WILL be posted on that board. That is it's specific intent. If you don't want to know don't go there. "Spoiler" is simply not needed as everyone has been warned and should know, or else they've had their head in the sand for the last week.
Common sense doesn't even EXIST anymore. (nm)look271

Lance won both today's stage and the yellow jersey. He's over a minute ahead of Beloki.
Hey, my message title does warn about this spoiler.

As much as I hate agreeing with Canadian Jackasses with superiority AND inferiority complexes, your point is well taken here.

BTW, I don't think all Canadians are Jackasses, just you. As they say, "some of my best friends are Canadians."
