bike stores in Baton Rouge Louisiana? and Landrider bikes?MJ

Hello

My parents live in Baton Rouge and my Dad is interested in getting healthy with some regular cycling. He forwarded me a link to a bike called the Landrider - which smacks of infomercial - here's the link -

is this sales pitch a regular on US TV? and is shifting really such a chore?

Anyways - I told my Pa that he could get a better bike for the same money and that he didn't want to give up control over shifting. (also the bike is not specced) Anybody have any comments on the Landrider?

Now I need to send my Dad to a good bike store in Baton Rouge - does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks for your help

MJ,

You might want to be careful sending him to an LBS. He could easily be overwhelmed with the cost of a good bike these days, particularly if his memory is limited to banana seat Scwinns and Huffys. I'd send him with a list of possible hybrid bikes, perhaps by C'Dale, Giant, and Specialized. That way he can target specific LBS in the yellow pages, call first for info and then go to visit.

Sorry--I don't live in "Red Stick." I'm down the river in N'awlins. Good luck.

Scott

thanks for that - I've given him pretty detailed instructions in a few emails - and have suggested low end Specialised and Trek mtbs - I've asked him not to purchase anything until he speaks to me - agree prices can be a shocker to the uninitiated

OBTW, I can think of two good LBSs here in NOLA that would have what he'd want (hybrid in the $300-$500 range). If he opts to drive down to swamp gas hell, let me know and I'll zap you the names and addresses.

Bayou Cycles--(504) 488-1946, 3534 Toulouse
GNO Cyclery--(504) 861-0023, 1426 S. Carrollton Ave.
Cleary Bicycles--(504) 885-8191, 3001 Clearview Pkwy.

There're a couple others that I've never been to and one high end one that I really like, but I don't think the latter does hybrids (they're a Seven, IF, Moots, DeKerf dealer).

The three I listed all have a lot of inventory in-stock and feature the usual big names.
