He was knocked unconscious briefly, but rapidly regained consciousness. Broken nose. He was kept overnight in hospital for observation. MRI showed no brain injury.

This is from Eurosport.com:
"Pinotti update: Marco Pinotti (Lampre), the rider who was involved in a very dangerous crash during yesterday's stage, has been transferred to a Paris hospital. He broke his nose and had 15 stitches in his lip and nose. The Italian doesn't remember anything about the crash."

Helmets dont save the nose and lips
It looks to me like TDF helmet usage is way up from past years.Spoke Wrench

Ironically, it also looks to me like helmet usage is way down among casual bikeriders.

all those guys must have crashed enough by now to have the sense to wear one. There's a crash in practically every stage. I wont race the local crits even with a helmet. He's lucky his noddles werent overly stired.
