Ok, more internet fun. I looked up Laurent Jalabert's new internet site (http://www.laurent-jalabert.com). It is, not surprisingly, produced in French. No English translation is offered. So....I translated using Babelfish. The results were, in some cases, stunningly hilarious. I offer the following from an interview on the site:

[Were you disappointed by the outcome of the stage?]

Jalabert: Hot, it is all the same the disappointment which dominates. It true that since the beginning of the Turn, I smell myself very well, that is made three times that I pass very close to the yellow jersey, it is a pity...
It was a good opportunity today, one cannot regret because we gave the maximum. The significant one, it is that the form is there and that the team functions very well.
Bad translation yeah, butmmquest

its pretty good for a computer; you can at least get an idea of what he was saying. You can appreciate how many subtleties there are in a language and how difficult it is to program.
It is facinating to see what the computer comes up with...Gregory Taylor

...when attempting to translate idioms and technical terms. I agree that this is really pretty good for a computer.

I was thinking of logging on to the official tour website and using Babelfish to translate the French live reports into English. That should liven things up...
This is a lot better than Italian-EnglishMerckx fan

I've tried auto-translating a lot of Italian stories about cycling, and most of the time the result is barely a step above pure gibberish.
