Look at purchasing them at my LBS (has them for $20 off). They fit well (roomy toe box), they are comfie, light, and stiff sole (carbon). I am a little put off by the looks, but I am also concerned that the almost completely mesh upper will stretch or rip (or show stains especially sweat).

Anyone have experience with these shoes? Are my concerns real? Any comments would be appreciated...

I've had mine for a few months now and there is no problem with the uppers. They are, however, the ugliest pair of shoes you will strap on. Comfortable, but ugly.

I've had them for about 3 weeks, I like them so far; the mesh is awesome - I can spread my toes and suddenly there's a nice breeze to cool my feet off :-) It's only been 3 weeks, but there are no signs of wear except for some scuffs on the soles, which is to be expected. And yes, they are pretty ugly! These are my first road shoes, I'd been using specialized mtn bike shoes w/spd's until now. The carbon soles are very stiff and responsive, no more hot spots.

The only problem I've had is that there's a little stiff part on the upper, underneath the top velcro strap, that starts hurting my right foot after a couple of hours of riding. BUT - I have very bony and skinny feet (not narrow, just low volume), so you might not have this problem. I also have a really tough time finding snowboard boots that are snug but don't leave bruises on my ankles and the tops of my feet where my bones stick out after riding all day. Just something to look for.
Oh, and I should also mention...TomS

...the little stiff part is starting to break in a bit, I went for a long ride the other day and it only bothered me a little. I think it's there to keep the strap from digging into your foot; so that might mean that I have the straps too tight, but like I said my feet are so skinny I need to make them really tight to get a snug fit on pretty much any shoes I've tried on.

I haven't seen any signs of the mesh stretching out though.

Wide in the forefoot is great for me. What about the width of the heel? I love my Carnac Legends because they're nice and narrow at the back. I'd love a pair of shoes that are a little cooler this time of year. I mean tempature, not look, as they are on the ugly side.
