The great art of expectorating!Ken of Fresno

Years ago I read an article in Bicycling Magazine that was about tactfully expectorating (expelling the contents of ones nose) while riding with others. It was a life changing event. Ever since then I've been able keep my gloves clean (when I wear them) AND respect the clean jerseys of those around me. I still remember the article ended with a little green blob instead of that usual typeset symbol that tells you the story is done.

I really need to get out and ride,

I just turn my head to the right and blow to clear both nostrils. Sometimes, I will pinch the left nostril and blow right and then pinch the right and blow left. Other then some "debris" on the shoulder, it works just fine.

I pack two folded up paper towels (Bounty works good). I fold them about 4 times, one I place under the right front leg of my cycling shorts, the other I stash under my left sleeve. I use one to wipe my tires down every 10-20 minutes or so and the other for my nose. Not so much a problem this time of year as my sinuses stay dry, more less a winter problem. The closing off one nostril and blowing works OK, but don't try it on a windy day...and if I flatten I can use one of the towels to wipe the grease off of my hands...
