Watching the TDF yesterday and they said the heavier riders for team USPS ride aluminum frames while the rest of the team rides the carbon fiber. Why is this? Is this just for the TT or do the heavier guys ride the aluminum frames for the entire tour?

They were only referring to the TT frames. I'd think it's due to the fact that the factory TT frames are only offered in 3 sizes and if you're over 6'2", you'd be out of luck, even with a large.

Trek has been toying with Cerveloesque aluminium framed TT bikes for a few years... there was even a rumor that they'd bring 'em to market this year.

Peter Reid tested one last year...
