Well I got a new smaller bar hoping that would loosen me up a bit and get rid of the neck and back pain. My steering is just a tad off and I'd like to make it perfect. Quill stem bolt came all the way out and the steering still won't budge. Do I need to loosen it at the headset or put more elbow grease into it? Or maybe something else. Sorry, I'm new to wrenching on road bikes.

Thanks for any input. This is probably an easy question for most of you.

Screw the bolt back in slightly and then tap the top of the bolt with a hammer. The stem is actually two pieces. You need to free up the bottom part of the stem. That should loosen the stem up enough to adjust.

Worked like a charm!

As for the guy below, I always work on my own bikes. I care more about them than the bike shop mechanic. I would've called them for advice, but alas...it was too late.

The more you wrench, the more you know!

Do yu know what Nemisis means?

Take it to the shop before you brak something or your bike falls apart on a downhill when your going 35mph. Its hard enough to diagnose a bike fit/stem question especially when you can't see the bloody bike
