Well we got the pool together and $180 on the line. We each pick 10 guys from a predetemined list of contenders. You receive points for each stage in which one or more of your guys comes in the top 10. 15 points if you pick a winner 9 points for second, 8 for third, etc, etc.. Guy with the most points at the end of the Tour wins the loot.

I've got a pretty good idea whom I'm gonna pick but thought I'd throw it at my favorite peanut gallery to see what they think. Which ten would you pick? They are roughly divided into three categories, sprinters, all-rounders/escape artists, and climbers. You can pick whatever combo you want as long as you end up with 10 guys. Who do you like you would be director sportifs?

Sprinters:

Erik Zabel
Robbie McEwen
Tom Steels
Jimmy Caspar
Stuey O'Grady
Jan Svorada
Fred Rodriguez - might belong in all-rounders.
Oscar Freire
Damien Nazon
Jaan Kirsipuu

All-Rounders

Jens Voigt
Laurent Jalabert
David Millar
Rik Verbrugghe
Alexander Vinokourov
Erik Dekker
Didier Rous
Ludo Dierckxens
Mark Wauters
Dario Frigo
Jacky Durand
Michael Boogerd
Fabio Baldato - Sprinter?
David Etxebarria

Climbers

Igor G.D. Galdeano
Joseba Beloki
Oscar Sevilla
Santiago Botero
Roberto Heras
Roberto Laiseka
Wladimir Belli
Tyler Hamilton
Kevin Livingston
Denis Menchov
Francisco Mancebo
Iban Mayo
Richard Virenque
Levi Leipheimer
Christophe Moreau.

Lance was excluded because everyone would pick lance and thus cancel him out of the contest.

Thanks,

BTW if you want to play along keep track and we'll compare points after the 28th. : )

Here's where I'm going:

Zabel
O'Grady
Kirsipuu
Steels
McEwen
Jalabert
Beloki
Sevilla
Botero
Virenque

Reasoning: I've done this a few times before, and the lesson learned is that true specialists (sprinters or climbers) have a much better chance of consistantly finishing at or near the top than do all-arounders who you think are good. I don't think anybody on my list will contend in the G.C.- but since there are no bonus points for GC, I'm picking all specialists, plus Jaja, who's always good for a win.
