|Code Purple in DC area today...||Djudd|

|apparently this is worse than last week's code red. Still the car addicts ride around alone in thier SUV's.
One good thing, in DC the city council has voted to curb the use of city owned SUV's to emergencies only. One small step for mankind.

I mean, the air is so dirty, how could they possibly walk around?
And yet, it seems the air here in L.A. is cleaner every year. I guess our clean air laws are working.

|I didn't realize there would be such a change in air quality from rural South Georgia to D/FW. Luckily, I live about 45 miles North of the metroplex. Still, the ozone warnings are high here. I hadn't even heard of ozone warning before moving here....|

|Since the conditions are in DC, perhaps George W. will start caring about the environment,but alas, if things get too bad he can always go to Texas.
But GW also now owns a bike (nice Trek, low miles I presume), perhaps he'll ride it in Texas, and get the hit and run treatment from the readers of the Woodlands newspapers.

|in case you didn't notice.
It's called Humidity. And it has something to do with the swamp land your national capital was sited on, oh 200 years ago or so.
NO matter what you think about the SUVs (and I don't like 'em either), the air quality IS better than when we had big block engines burning leaded fuel.

|there is no way to sustain this many vehicles and have the atmosphere dissapate the toxic residue. The fact that they burn unleaded fuel is now negated by the sheer number of vehicles on the road. It cannot be done.|

|I'm riding my regular route where I turn around at a state park gravel access road. As I'm heading back home about a mile away from the park, I get passed by a pickup with 2 mountain bikes in the back. I didn't think anything about it because this park has about the only legal trails in the area and people come from all over town to ride there. Well this pickup turns right about a quarter mile up the road into a subdivision. It's a Code Orange day and this joker drove less than 2 miles to ride his mountain bike. People never learn. I bet he still waters his lawn even though we have mandatory water restrictions.|

|Grass fire in Cal.||SnowBlind|
Jul 3, 2002 10:05 AM
|A fire late in the afternoon ruined my evening ride here in Sacramento.
Stepped outside to smell a grass fire near the RR tracks, right next to the bike trail. Wind was taking it right over the house.
