dumb question about pedal threadsbonsai171

hi, i'm thinking about finally going to look style pedals (after using platform pedals with toe clips!).. I was just wondering if anyone has an idea of what size pedal thread a '76 Schwinn Continental would have? I only ask because there are some really crazy sizes on this bike! Thanks
Don't even try it...Alexx

..if it has one of those 1-piece 'ashtabula' cranks. It won't fit.
Just out of curiosity--why would somebody put $100 pedals on a $50 bike? I doesn't really make sense.

IIRC if this bike has the steel one-piece Ashtabula cranks, then you are 1/2" and there's no such think as a Look pedal that will fit. Otherwise, they are the standard 9/16 x 20 and any pedal will fit. You can easily measure the pedal axle where it threads and find out whether it's 1/2" or 9/16".

I have a 76 Schwinn Continental, have not attempted to put on Look pedals: but did have to replace the original pedals, and a set of Walmart plastic horrors went on without problems. So I suspect it's the standard 9/16".

Wal-Fart bikes mostly use the cheap-$h!t ashtabula cranks with 1/2" spindles. "Wal-Mart horrors" are probably closer to what the bike needs, anyway. Maybe you should consider powerstraps?
