|I've never seen a catastrophic wheel breakdown that wasn't caused by a pedal in spokes or some other outside force. I've seen shaved and broken nipples resulting in allowing riders being able to make it back home. Yesterday in the cat 4 race I saw a guy's Kyserium lose 4 or 5 spokes in a row. I am not sure if someone else's pedal got in there as I was too far away to see. Only he went down.
For me, I felt stronger than I had all year. Feelin' really really good and with 5 laps of about 50 to go I know I'll be in the hunt for a top 10 after my nasty crash last year. Hmmmm, my hands feel dead entering the turn and I think, what the heck is wrong with my hands? I move my fingers around and they fell fine. I know what's goin' on now, I look down, sure enough my front is flat. I am already entered into the turn full speed. I yell *FLAT FLAT COMING RIGHT!!!* Damn, boxed in, by teammate no less. I scrub rear brakes, front wheel skids, ridin' on the rim, manage to stay upright and bail right. No free lap rule in effect, done for the day. f#@k!
