Today I did the University of Okoboji Cycling Classic in Spirit Lake,IA. Temp was in the mid 90's by afternoon and winds were gusty at 20-25. I didn't hear the official number but I would guess about 1500-2000 showed up. It was a nice route, weaving around the lakes and marshes and up into Minnesota on the century loop. I wanted to use this to gauge my fitness over last year, and despite the heat and wind I finished in 5'31" and tried to keep an aerobic pace with no hammering and I felt really good when I finished,I was tired but didn't feel over taxed like I have in the past. The race training and weekly TT's seemed to have paid some dividends.
Sounds nice.Leisure

I love rides that go around water bodies. Adds a nice meditative feeling.
Sounds like your Friday night "BBQ binge"JL

A Friend and I were up there this year. It was his 4th time and my 2. We did the century as well but I started to struggle at the end like my name suggest. I had a finish time of 6 hours. I sure wanted that to be well under 6 hours but I just do not have the miles in for strenght this year (around a 1,000 since winter with trainer miles). The heat was like having a furnace on you in the bike paths with the straight wind. It was a good time though. I will be looking forward to it for next year. RAGBRAI is around the corner now. I had a finish heart rate of 153 average. Not sure if that is good or bad. Sounds like you had a good time!

Have some fun now

looks like good nutrition paid off. It's good to hear about improvement.

Yup...I know that area well. Pretty much flat as a pancake and lots of wind and hummidity. Maybe some mosquitoes to boot. Where do you live? I grew up in Wahpeton (school in Milford)...

was that "bike time" or "total time"? I usually just count my bike time as my century time, but some include rest stops.
