It's difficult to answer the "eat" question... are you speaking of pre ride... on the ride... training diet???
Depending on the distance, you carry as little as possible (on a 10 miler... I wouldn't carry anything... it's too short).
... a little more info might help us answer some basic concerns.

It's a 40K, on a 10K course - it's the state tt championship.
The course - as I understand it - is pretty flat, although there's a couple of small hills.
It's early morning - 1st off at 6:30, final rider at 9:30, one rider every 30 sec

|You could use a Camel Back with a carb liquid if you need such. Even for 40Ks I'd go minimal (nothing but me and the stripped-down bike). No food, no liquid. Some people NEED some form of hydration, but for 40K, the effect on your time will be minimal. Your prep prior to race day, and the morning of, will be more important.|| |
