Because its not friday yet: a poll, sctri

IT was suggested (jokingly perhaps) in an earlier thread that to cure bike lust, one needs a well rounded stable of bikes, 4 at the least, one steel, one aluminum, one carbon and one ti.

Granted, not all of us need those bikes, and we certainally dont need all of those bikes each, but because i have too much time on my hands, so i have made my selections

steel: salsa la raza
Ti: IF crown jewel
alum: Titus Drop-U
Carbon: trek 5200.. (its what i have now...)

SO two questions:
1) what are your picks
2) which bike should i lust for next?

(yes, its raining outside... and i am couped up for at lest 5 more hours...)

Exact same picks for me all the way down the line. I was playing with the CAAD 7 bike at a bike show, its a solid, sleek absolute BRUTE! All business fast machine. Great bike. Did you see the new Vortex design w/ the bladed seat stays? Tres cool.
: )

How do you like the 381? I was lusting heavy for the old 281, still a great bike btw, but now I've upgraded to Laurent Jalabert's industrial black 381i.

I will let you know after this weekend. I still have a couple of things to do and I'll be rolling. I ended up with the Kelme colors. Too bad they are riding the 386 this year. The CSC wasn't available when I ordered mine and I didn't really care for the off-white color on the CA version.

Haven't seen the bladed stays yet... Cant wait

while, I never cared to collect bike of all materials. However, there are a few bikes that really made my sleep a little harder lately. My stable consist only two bikes right now, sure will grow in the future.

Steel: no
Alu: #1 Starship(black) with that Cinelli Integralter handlebar to match it. #2 De Rosa Planet, I have never seen a more tasteful color scheme(my taste anyway), and I think De Rosa is the only company that can make integrated headset truly look "integrated". #3 Colnago Dream track bike in that chrome/blue color scheme.
Carbon: De Rosa King
Ti: no
I have my lottery ticket in my pocket, wish me luck this time!
de rosa steel. only need one. nmcolker

A lottery win would put about 11 bikes total in the personal quiver, including a fixte, a cruiser, and 1 or 2 MTB's.

For 1 of each I'd go with:
steel: Hampsten Cinghiale Pro (close second: Steelman Stage Race)
Ti: Seven Axiom (second: IF Ti Crown Jewel)
alum: Fondriest Don Racer U107 Lite (second: De Rosa UD or C-dale CADD7)
Carbon: Calfee Dragonfly (but pure lust for the De Rosa King!)

All said, I'd like to have a nice Bianchi Milano cruiser before buying another road bike. The pure fun factor is hard to beat, and it has got to be the coolest cruiser alive!
Milano is sweet, but if it's a lotto win...loop

Ti: Does a CT1 count? I wanna keep my CT1, no matter what.
Steel: Spectrum (with a Tom Kellog fit session)
Carbon: Might as well get that C40
Alum: De Rosa Merak

Actually, this would be fun but I'm not really ambitious to own 4 road bikes; and part of me thinks it better to have fewer (and have riding them--or it--feel like second nature).
My choices............davet
Jun 27, 2002 4:30 PM
Ti........Serotta Hors Categorie

Carbon....Calfee Tetra Pro
(I own both of the above)

Steel..... Serotta CSI ( I used to own one)

Aluminum...Don't know, maybe a really good MTB

I believe that every manufacturer of Ti, Steel, carbon, and Al bikes should supply me with one each of all their frames, in my size, and with the components of my choosing, to ride for a month, so that I can make an informed decision.

Only fair if they want me to buy their bike - right?
1 Al, 1 Ti, 4 steel so farDMoore
Jun 27, 2002 8:59 PM
What I have:

Al - current model Specialized E5 - my current race ride. Weighs 15 lbs 4 oz ready to ride, 58 cm with every Ti or carbon part I could find.

Ti - Litespeed Ultimate, my former race bike. 60 cm, 17 lbs, which I used to think was lightweight!

Steel - my favorites

Richard Sachs, Brian Baylis, Bill Holland, all of which are full Campy Record equipped; and my classic 1984 Ciocc Mockba '80, full NR/SR and orginal except for clincher rims and modern tires.

My lusts:

Exclusively steel "collector" bikes. I'd like bikes from Richard Moon and Columbine to start; then maybe a Spectrum, Bohemian, another Baylis. The Al and Ti bikes serve a purpose, no question, but they don't light any fires for me. Well, maybe a new Bill Holland Ti would get some flames going!
