|What do the rest of you think of Mapei's withdrawal as a major team sponsor? What long term effects, if any, do you think this action will have on cleaning up the sport?
My own thoughts are that sponsorship withdrawals are perhaps the only effective lever on getting teams, organizers, and the UCI to really crack down on doping, since dollars drive the sport.

|I can't find this info anywhere. Who will replace Mapei at the Tour now that Mapei no longer exists.
Bummer for Cadel.

|First of all, Mapei stated they will continue the sponsorship of their programs until the end of the 2002 season. The article can be found here:
Since Mapei has such a large presence in cycling at many different levels, another large sponsor could come in next year and take over. Depending on the amount of money said sponsor might be willing to shell out, the program could remain more or less intact.
The other possible option is the team could dissolve entirely, leaving the riders to find spots on other teams.
My best guess is another sponsor will come forward to take up the Div 1 team, and leave the other programs to find help elsewhere.
Time will tell.
