Choices in the $2700 range?????Greek Bastard
Jun 26, 2002 6:26 AM
At the risk of sounding spoiled I have about $2700 to spend on a new steed. I am a weekend warrior who cycles about 200 miles a week on the road in addition to some mtbing, probably won't ever race. Contemplating the following choices:

Eddy Merckx Team SC from Colorado Cyclist with Ultegra
Aegis Aro Svelte with Ultegra
Something steel and real?

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I have a Merckx Team SC and LOVE IT!!!! It is by far the best bike I have ever ridden, very confortable geometry, extremely light and stiff, absorbs road shock well, climbs like crazy,......can't give it enough praise.

Why not an IF Crown Jewel, about $1,500 for the frame and $1,200 for Chorus 10 speed? I got mine from Sid's last year and have been very happy. The difference between that and my old Cannondale CAAD3 is substantial.

Focus on FIT for the frame, consider Chorus for your group...PdxMark

lots and lots of great frame options, but if you focus on FIT your choices will be narrowed. A great frame that doesn't fit makes for a bad bike. Also, Chorus is a great option in that price range. I've enjoyed the switch from Shimano, but others will differ. Enjoy your new ride.

I'd go with a Calfee Luna. Probably the best full carbon frame for the money. Light and stiff too- and better warranty.

My Aegis did start in your range and you have to ride one to appreciate the advantages of them.
