South Bay Wheelman is a big, well-organized, and very active club: Every Saturday, a big group ride called the Donut Ride (road) leaves neighboring Redondo Beach at 8:00 a.m. Fast group road rides also leave the Manhattan Beach pier early every Tuesday and Thursday morning. You won't find any mtbing in Hermosa, but the Santa Monica mountains aren't too far away. They're criss-crossed with fireroads and a decent amount of singletrack. The South Bay isn't Colorado, but you'll find plenty of cycling.

What's the cycling like in Southern California? Year-round riding without the threat of snow, very little rain, low humidity, and no woods. A day in the 50's is cold!

Hermosa Beach is smack in the center of the South Bay, home to a lot of road cyclists, many of the very active belonging to either clubs or shop teams. The previous post had a link to That gives the overview of the South Bay road riding scene. You could also check out There are always people out on bikes riding around, but if you're looking for a central hang out spot where people congregate, I can't think of one (other than the ride meeting points).

There is a lot of mountain biking in the Santa Monica mountains, some in Palos Verdes (closer to the South Bay), and lots of other off road opportunities a car ride away.
NO threat of snow? How boring . . .speedisgood

Actually, riding a mountain bike in the snow is hella fun! The cold still sucks tho.

Seriously tho, I visited family in Redondo and was amazed by the riding out there. Very nice. I wouldn't mind relocating there myself!

The worst part of the bike path that runs almost the length of Santa Monica Bay is in Hermosa. Nice place to hang out, but totally out of control if you are on a bike. Ride before 7am to survive.

For local road rides, you'll probably want to head south into Redondo Beach, Torrance, and especially Palos Verdes. You can find some very good riding, incredible scenery, and some decent climbs out on the Penninsula.
