I ride Mavic Classics Elite wheels - 32 straight-pull spokes laced to what looks like an Open Pro rim. I understand the hubs are from Edco. Anyway I've done 25,000km on these wheels. I took them to the shop last month for an overhall for the first and only time but they didn't touch them because the bearings were still perfect. The advantage of the design lies in the sealed bearings - even if the cartridge bearings fail the hub itself cannot be damaged, and replacement of the bearings is simple and very cheap. I would expect another three or four years from these exceptionally strong and reliable wheels. The hubs are the last thing I will worry about. I spin and I only weigh 59kgs, but I ride hard and don't always miss th potholes.
