Let's say, hypothetically, that Lance comes up positive. What would the repercussions be? Would America's new fascination with cycling end overnight? Would Lance be a joke? I know in my heart he is clean, but what if?

I've wondered the same thing. I would hate to see it happen. Personally, I think you have to be superhuman to even finish the Tour, let alone win it. I think the American public doesn't know much about cycling anyway, and those that do I think would give him the benefit of the doubt. Those that only know it in passing would probably think "all those guys are dopers anyway".

I wouldn't go as far to say America has a fascination with cycling. The fascination was with Lance and his incredible come back-not cycling. America (in general) could care less about cycling. Its a very minor sport in the US.

The repercussions of a positive drug test would be small. It would be a one day story and then die. Look at major league baseball. A vastly more popular sport in the USA. The steroid and drug testing story was news for only a couple of weeks and fans never stopped going to the ball park.

I don't think the general public would consider Lance a joke. In general I believe most people think there are a lot of chemicals used in cycling. His positive test would be dismissed as "they're all doing it".

cycling is about as big as its fascination with soccer, the world cup hasn't finished, yet you would never believe it if you looked in the paper, when Lance quits,do you really think Tyler's going to be on the front (or in) any non cycling mags or interviewed on tv

First of all, you have a stupid reply to my question that probes into something we all don't want to face if in fact it were true. I don't believe it is, but what if. Play along.
